Environmental, Social and Governance in Current Events
As you scan through the press, it can feel like a challenge not to see multiple stories related to Environmental, Social and Governance in some way. Whether the angle is on reaching carbon net zero, the role that organisations play as part of the fabric of society, or more widely the impact that products, such oil and gas, play across supply chains, they explore how these effect the cost of goods and the cost of living.
The Negative Connotations of Greenwashing
We are also in a world where expectations regarding ESG are becoming more closely integrated into the global legislative, regulatory and investment infrastructure. We have seen examples of alleged ‘greenwashing’ being publicly showcased by regulators, as well as the first fines for misleading ESG statements. On top of the ever-growing public debate, this means firms are under more pressure than ever to understand what ESG means to them and put forward clear plans that they can track against.
The Challenges of ESG
But with any ESG conversation, there are challenges. With multiple frameworks and benchmarks, where do you start as an organisation? With employees and customers often sharing their own opinions – let alone high expectations for some - how do you assess what will have the most impact? And where do you balance this with influencing and generating the resources required to get buy-in and drive change?
Over the course of three days, we’ll consider the global and local landscape in which organisations exist. And then consider the opportunities, as well as challenges that a focus on ESG might present – both for you as leaders, as well as for your organisations.
Each organisation will have a different footprint and set of challenges, so our aim will be to focus on building a baseline of what ‘Authentic ESG’ means for you.
