Coaching leadership training. Anna Dennis, from the Crown Prosecution Service, recently attended our 1-day Coaching Masterclass for Leaders course to help her improve within her role and develop others. She’s had an interest in coaching and mentoring for some time and when her colleague shared and recommended this course, she decided to try it.

Company overview:

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. I have worked for the CPS for 6 years in various job roles, from operational delivery as a paralegal, to managing a team of caseworkers before moving into project management in change delivery. I currently lead on national scale change delivery projects.

 

Learning objectives and challenges:

As a project manager leading on national projects, I would say the biggest challenge I am faced with is managing people all over the country, across agencies and influencing senior managers. This is my motivation for attending the course, I wanted to develop my confidence in leadership and feel able to develop others around me.

My objectives for the course were to learn new techniques that I could easily apply within my role to lead, coach, and influence various people around me to aid my projects and successfully implement change.

 

The learning experience:

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I thought it was a great introduction into coaching. I found the techniques really useful and easy to follow. I was thoroughly surprised at how effective a whole day virtual course on Zoom actually was, really enjoyed the virtual rooms with the other participants, it made the course a lot more engaging and enabled the participants to put the techniques into practice.

Whilst on the programme, I learned a lot about myself and how I approach things naturally. I’ve learned new coaching and mentoring techniques and what the difference between coaching and mentoring is, and the importance of both.

I found Alex to be a great tutor. He was clear, and concise with his points. The course was a great blend of Alex speaking to us, but also engaging the group for our thoughts, to do demos and to break off into separate groups. Very engaging and insightful.

 

How has your training benefited you so far?

I plan to use the techniques and learning from the course in my professional and personal life; to self-coach myself through situations, and to use techniques with my colleagues to coach them through problems or situations at work.

I have already used the personality profiling exercise as a team building exercise, to encourage us to look deeper at how we work together and help us understand where our strengths and weaknesses lie.

I am hoping they will encourage stronger working relationships within my team and projects, I feel  it will improve my confidence and pro-activity too.
