Name: Sally-Ann Higgins
Sally-Ann works at Marsh, the world’s largest insurance broker with more than 70,000 staff worldwide.
She is a technical team manager in the talent, learning and inclusion (TLI) team.
Marsh was looking to create a mentoring scheme, to initially be run collaboratively by the company’s HR and TLI teams.
“My motivation for attending the coaching and mentoring development training was to reinforce and expand upon my current skills, with the intention of being able to participate in the company scheme as a mentor or coach, as well as for personal development.”
I found the coaching and mentoring development training very beneficial, working with my peers and hearing their experiences and those of the tutors.
The course was very well put together. Although the thought of coaching every day was a little daunting to begin with, it worked so well.
The tutors were fabulous and clearly understood their topic, and were able to share some real insight into coaching and mentoring, and how to make it effective.
I had previously seen many of the modules, but several were explained in new ways to me, which heightened my understanding of them.
In addition, I was introduced to some new materials that resonated with me, so much so that I went straight home and used them with my family.
Applying the learning
Sally-Ann said she would be sharing some of her learning with colleagues to support them in their coaching and mentoring development training.
She, too, will be volunteering for the company programme. She said her coaching and mentoring would be more effective, as she will use the skills and tools she has taken from the course.
From a business perspective, she is sure her colleagues and the company’s clients will benefit from her participation in the course.
I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone looking to develop their coaching and mentoring skills. It was fabulous, and I got way more out of it than I thought I would.
