Karen is the Head of People and Engagement at Allied Care Ltd, a provider of domiciliary and residential social care for adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. The company is based in the south of England.
The organisation had recently been through a transition from a family-led business to a corporate shareholding company. This had resulted in the loss of a MD/CEO, and the creation of a board of executive directors with long-standing associations with the business.
Allied Care since set an objective to use the ‘balanced scorecard’ approach to manage certain sectors of the business. Karen’s motivation for attending the leadership and management course was to enhance her understanding of individual and company values, and how these would influence future organisational strategy.
Engaging remotely is never easy but I believe this was brilliantly handled by In Professional Development. I feel I have learnt a lot about myself, including my defining characteristics and values.
The most beneficial part of the programme was looking at the development of a strategy from the early stages of vision through to execution.
There was a significant amount of useful information shared during the programme, including how the work of renowned trainer Robert Dilts provides the relevant tools to work through individual and business change.
Overall, I found the course enlightening. The accompanying tutorials and group discussions were brilliantly managed and the learning was continuous throughout the day. The diversity of participant backgrounds really enhanced the learning, as we could share our experiences and insights.
The tutors and event coordinators were extremely supportive, skilled, and down to earth. I also felt the presentation slides were of a high standard, and the accompanying ‘TED Talk’ videos made the learning even more memorable.
Applying the learning
I have already started to apply the knowledge gained from the leadership and management course, as I have since put forward a proposal to change the way we manage the outcomes of regulatory inspections. This is now possible after the course gave me the confidence to push forward with ideas of this nature.
This was the first course that has enabled me to feel comfortable with my personality type, and I no longer feel that having an introverted personality is a barrier to progress. I now have the tools to demonstrate the theory behind the practice in a way that makes perfect sense.
I would absolutely recommend this leadership and management course, especially to those aiming to improve their understanding of individual and company values.
