Leadership & Management Course: IMI Critical Engineering

What challenge was you looking to address?

Our business is growing rapidly, and with that comes new responsibilities and expectations—especially for those of us stepping into leadership roles. I was transitioning into a position that required not just strategic thinking, but also people management and leadership capability. Although I had experience managing accounts and teams, I had never received formal leadership training. I knew I needed something that would equip me to lead confidently and effectively as the business evolves and scales globally.

“I have come away from that 100% feeling like I am more capable and equipped to lead better and also to manage better.”

What was the solution your organisation opted for?

We opted for a professional leadership and management development course with In Professional Development. The course was recommended internally—my manager had previously attended and found it valuable. For me, it was a chance to build foundational knowledge in leadership theory and practice, and to develop skills I could apply immediately in my current role and as I progress further.

What was the approach to the training?

The course was delivered really effectively. Our trainer, Liam, had a great way of guiding us to discover insights ourselves rather than just giving us the answers. We explored real-life scenarios through practical activities, and the content was structured in a way that kept us engaged throughout the three days. I was fortunate to be sat with a diverse and passionate group, which made the learning even richer. It was interactive, thought-provoking, and full of useful tools that I’ve already started applying.

“Liam absolutely knew what he was doing… he helped us take what we learned and put it into practice.”

What value did In Professional Development or INPD bring?

INPD provided more than just a course—they gave me a new way of looking at leadership. The training gave structure and governance to what I previously approached based on instinct or personal experience. That shift has made me a more effective and confident leader. I’m already seeing the impact in how I approach conflict, manage relationships, and think strategically. The course didn’t just inform me; it changed how I operate day to day.

“The course didn’t just inform me; it changed how I operate day to day.”

What were the 3 key takeaways that the training impacted your organisation?

  • Conflict resolution and emotional intelligence: I now handle difficult conversations and conflict with greater confidence and less emotion. It’s been a game-changer in our fast-paced and often high-pressure environment.
  • Strategic thinking vs operational management: The distinction between being a manager and a leader was really powerful. It helped me see how to delegate effectively and focus more on strategy and growth.
  • Confidence in leadership governance: I no longer rely solely on personal experience to manage others. I have a framework I can trust, which brings consistency and professionalism to how I lead.
