Strategic Approaches to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Programme: Canterbury Christchurch University

What challenge were you looking to address?

As someone who lives and breathes equity and inclusion, I was looking for ways to be more strategic in demonstrating impact in this space. Given the increasingly complex and politicised landscape around EDI, I needed a solid framework to not only lead authentically but to also show tangible outcomes within our organisation.

“I thought the course was an incredible learning experience from start to finish.”

What was the solution you opted for?

I enrolled in a professional training course with In Professional Development that offered both a workshop and a formal qualification. I specifically chose this course because it promised strategic insight and tools I could apply directly to our equity and inclusion goals.

“It helped me develop the business case for a strategy that is now agreed and implemented at my university.”

What was the approach to the training?

The course blended in-person workshops with practical assignments. The diversity of leaders in the room—spanning public and private sectors—meant the conversations were rich and insightful. We tackled real-world challenges, shared experiences, and engaged in meaningful dialogue. The resources provided were also excellent, and the final assignment helped me put theory into action by building a robust, research-backed EDI strategy.

“The qualification helped me not just personally and professionally, but in delivering real impact going forward.”

What value did INPD bring?

INPD created a learning environment that was both structured and flexible. The content was spot on—the pace, delivery, and facilitation were outstanding. What truly made it stand out was how well thought-out everything was—from the group activities to the follow-up resources. I came away not only with a qualification but a real sense of direction and confidence in delivering strategic change.

“It gave us an essential foundation to communicate and embed sustainable EDI practices over the next three years.”

What were the 3 key takeaways that the training impacted you and your organisation?

  1. The course gave me the tools and structure to develop and implement a comprehensive three-year EDI strategy, which has since been adopted across the university.
  2. Our new strategy has elevated our reputation externally, positioning us as leaders in embedding sustainable EDI practices.
  3. I gained valuable professional connections and ongoing learning opportunities through the diverse peer group on the course.

“I’ve been on workshops before and not taken much away—but this one was really well thought out.”
