How Catherine Jackson, Workforce Transformation Lead for Neighbourhood Health at an ICB, strengthened her approach to organisational development through our Organisational Development & Design Programme
An Integrated Care Board (ICB) is an NHS organisation responsible for planning and managing local health services, working with partners across health, social care and the wider community. The organisation helps coordinate services around local population needs, supporting more joined-up care and long-term improvements in health outcomes.
Catherine wanted to feel better equipped to manage the organisational development side of the transformation work she leads. This was particularly relevant as her organisation prepared for large-scale changes in how health and care services are organised around neighbourhood health.
Having completed her Level 7 ILM Executive Coaching qualification in 2025, Catherine saw the Organisational Development & Design Programme as a natural next step. It offered an opportunity to formalise the knowledge and experience she had built throughout her public sector career.
The tutor took a flexible, discussion-led approach, adapting the time spent on topics according to the group’s interests and experience. This created valuable opportunities for participants from different sectors to share ideas, reflect on practice and learn from one another.
The programme introduced Catherine to practical tools and new perspectives she could apply directly to her transformation work. Exercises such as the Culture Web and DECIDE framework were particularly relevant to her work creating new teams across organisational boundaries.
Sharing experiences with participants from a range of sectors introduced Catherine to new ideas, theories and approaches she could explore further.
The Culture Web and DECIDE framework provided practical ways to understand organisational challenges and consider them from different perspectives.
The programme reinforced the value of putting people at the centre of organisational change and using real experiences to demonstrate impact.
