Working in a busy practice meant immediate priorities could often take precedence over longer-term development. Humza wanted an opportunity to step outside of the day-to-day and consider how he could lead more strategically.

“I was keen to step back from the day-to-day pressures and take the opportunity to reflect on my current approach and identify areas where I could improve”

Humza joined InPD’s virtual General Practice Manager Development Programme, with a particular focus on strengthening his leadership and people management skills and building greater confidence in his role.

“No two days are quite the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role.”

The programme provided dedicated development time away from operational pressures while keeping the learning firmly grounded in the realities of primary care.

Sessions combined practical learning with open discussion, giving delegates the opportunity to explore situations they encounter within their own practices and learn from the experiences of others.

“The tutor created an environment where everyone could contribute and share their experiences, which made the training feel relevant and applicable to our roles”

The programme encouraged Humza to reconsider how he responds to challenges, moving away from immediately looking for a solution and towards taking time to understand the wider situation first.

It also reinforced the importance of making reflection an ongoing part of his development as a leader.
