Operational Management Course – Boiler & Valve Engineering

What challenges were you looking to address?

Steven was not looking to address one specific organisational challenge. Instead, his motivation came from a personal drive to formalise the management and leadership experience he had built over the previous decade.

Having held senior management roles across different industries for 10 years, much of Steven’s development had come through experience and “learning by doing” rather than through conventional training routes.

With Boiler & Valve Engineering going through a period of growth and positive change, Steven also wanted to strengthen his ability to support his teams effectively and add new practical tools to his management and leadership approach.

“I wanted to learn from some industry training experts and confirm my tools and skills are relevant and appropriate”

What was the solution you opted for?

Steven attended In Professional Development’s Operational Management Course to develop his leadership capability, reflect on his existing experience and strengthen his practical management toolkit.

The course provided an opportunity to step back from day-to-day operations, explore new approaches to leading teams and consider how change can be implemented in a way that supports both business growth and organisational culture.

“There were no specific challenges I was looking to address, it was more about learning some new tools to add to my management and leadership toolbox”

What was the approach to the training?

The training was practical, relevant and grounded in real-world experience. Steven found that the tutors brought the content to life by using their own professional examples, helping delegates understand how leadership and management principles can be applied in practice.

“The tutors were great, they kept it relevant and used their own experiences as examples which is a great way to understand how principles are applied to ‘real life’”

The sessions were also highly interactive, encouraging delegates to share their own experiences, challenges and perspectives with one another.

“They got us talking with one another as well, which empowers you to think about your own skills, experiences and challenges. That works so much better for me as opposed to ‘death by PowerPoint’”

What value did InPD bring?

The programme helped Steven build confidence in his existing management approach while introducing new tools and frameworks he could apply within Boiler & Valve Engineering.

A major area of value was learning how to lead and implement change while maintaining the core values and culture of the organisation; something Steven identified as especially important to the business.

“The biggest thing I took away from the course was how to drive and implement change whilst maintaining core values and cultures, something that is very important to Boiler & Valve”

The programme also supported Steven in thinking more clearly about team development, both at an individual and collective level. He gained practical tools to assess where growth and improvement opportunities exist across his teams, as well as how different people may respond to change.

“I learnt how to assess my teams to identify opportunities for growth and improvement, individually and collectively”

What were the 3 key takeaways that the training impacted you and your organisation?

Leading Change Without Losing Culture
Steven developed a clearer understanding of how to drive and implement change while protecting the values and culture that are central to Boiler & Valve Engineering.

Assessing Team Growth and Development
The programme gave Steven practical tools to assess his teams more effectively, helping him identify opportunities for individual and collective growth.

Understanding the Impact of Change on People
Steven gained useful insight into how change can affect different individuals in different ways, giving him tools to better support his teams through a period of growth and positive change.
